Chelsea’s Sounds & Sights adopts Summerfest

PRESS RELEASE:  Chelsea’s popular summer music series, Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights has adopted its partner event Chelsea Summer Fest, with plans to expand the event in the future  The weekend event is now called the Sounds & Sights Festival and with a third night added, runs from July 29-31.  “It made sense from so many perspectives to do this,” says Common.  “Sponsors are asked once, we can market under one umbrella and tap into each other’s volunteer base.  This event will really grow in years to come.”  The Festival is the combined effort of the Sounds & Sights and Festival Committees, the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce, the Chelsea Center for the Arts, and downtown merchants.  The event is generously sponsored the Chelsea DDA with support from Chelsea State Bank and Chelsea Milling, Co.

The Festival has added an additional night of top-flight entertainment on Thursday and incorporated it with the Sounds & Sights schedule, and has also expanded the food court.  New this year is the Open-air Art Market throughout downtown.  Back again from Summer Fest are the Saturday Pet Parade, the Chelsea Teddy Bear Company KidZone, the Friday night Classic Car show and the SculptureWalk Chelsea. SRSLY Cinema will showing free outdoor movies at dusk on Friday and Saturday night.

“We have some new things lined up and an amazing list of nightly performers,” says Common.  “We added a Thursday night lineup geared to a younger audience featuring My Dear Disco, which has a huge local following and will be playing Lollapalooza this summer.  There are 2 popular Detroit bands on Friday – the Howling Diablos and The SunMessengers, and we close again this year with NoteWorthy and Festival favorite, Fifty Amp Fuse.”
