Mary Underwood – Fiber
Honoring the fiber, Mary begins anything she does by relating to a particular fiber. And with that, she honors the plant or being that produced it, the person who cared for it, and the recipient who may receive what she has made.
Mary spins yarns and weaves, almost always with natural fibers, and often from fibers she’s spun herself. The fibers she uses for yarn usually come from animals and places she knows herself. Her cashmere and baby camel hair comes from Mongolians she knows well and her wool is almost all from this immediate area or the Great Lakes region. While she has produced textile art, most of her focus is on textiles for use.
Lynda Wallis – Oil Painting
Lynda has been actively involved in her community and beyond as an environmental activist for over 22 years. She has worked as professional artist supporting her family for the same time span. Much of the work that she has created over the years was/is designed to teach the public about the environment. Her illustrations and drawings reach large audiences as an integral part of hundreds of signs found in nature preserves within the region and across the country. The art she creates using her voice is drawn from nature. The landscape she lives with is where she paints. She’s drawn to landscapes that highlight the folds of the earth, farm fields and the immense beauty of our great inland sea. She is drawn to rich colors and drama in the skies. She loves painting. www.freelanceillustrations.com
