Holiday Light Parade 2019

The 2020 Parade has been cancelled. 

Chelsea Light ParadeThe Annual Holiday Light Parade takes place on Saturday evening during Hometown Holiday weekend, and has the town glowing with the spirit of the season. We invite you, your friends, acquaintances, neighbors, family, etc., to join in the parade this year.

If you are interested in participating in this year's Light Parade, please contact us. All parade entries (floats, walkers, cars, etc.) are asked to comply with the rules and regulations.

Parade Staging Area - We ask all participants to be at the staging area (Chelsea State Bank – Main Branch) no later than 4:30pm on the day of the parade. The parade will start at 6:00 pm and travel down Main Street (M-52) until it reaches Jackson Street. There will be someone there to direct you as to where to park your floats, etc.  The parade will not cross the railroad tracks.

Giving Back to Our Community

The Hometown Holiday Committee encourages everyone to donate a new, unwrapped toy for "Toys for Tots & Teens" in Chelsea. These gifts will be distributed by Faith In Action to Chelsea area families in need.

Hometown Holiday Light Parade Application

  • Parade Date: Saturday, December 7, 2019 | 6pm Line Up Time: NO Later than 5pm at Chelsea State Bank 1010 S Main St -All Entries must be reviewed and approved by the Parade Committe prior to participation in the parade. If you have any questions, please contact the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce at (734)475-1145. -Drivers of motorized vehicles must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license and submit a copy of license and proof of insurance 1 week prior to parade day.
  • Rules and Regulations Please read the following instructions before completing and returning your parade application. 1. ALL entries must have lights on them, including walking groups. 2. There will be no more than 40 entries. Entries will be evaluated for acceptance based on theme use, entertainment value and use of lights (clear and colored). 3. Domestic Animal entries will be accepted into the parade as long as all domestic animals are leashed. If you have a vehicle accompanying your animals, you MUST have lights on the vehicle, as well as the animals. If you have non domestic animals, please contact [email protected] before submitting application. 4. No unit will be admitted into the parade that has not been pre-approved. Entries will not be accepted after December 2, 2019. 5. The Hometown Holiday Committee reserves the right to reject any entry that is not in good taste, inappropriate, or is not in the best interest of the parade. 6. Entries depicting a political organization, candidate, or controversial issue will not be considered. 7. Maximum height for entries is 12.6 feet from the ground. Maximum width is 8.6 feet. 8. All units are required to maintain forward motion at all times. No maneuvers are allowed that slows the forward movement of the parade. 9. All entries should be properly identified with signs or banners with the organization’s name, so spectators know who you are. A holiday message is suggested. This is not a commercial parade-- please no sales messages. 10. Drivers of motorized vehicles must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. The Chamber must receive a copy of the driver’s license one week prior to the parade day. 11. Sirens and Horns --- please limit the use of them due to units that may have music and in keeping with the holiday ambience. 12. Only one powered vehicle will be permitted for each entry. 13. Walkers must be able to keep up with the pace and length of the parade. 14. Equestrian and animal units must provide their own accompanying clean-up personnel and equipment. Please make sure the horses have the proper shoes. If you have a vehicle, carriage, etc., it MUST have lights on it to be permitted in the parade. 15. All parade participants are required to conduct themselves in such a manner as not to infringe on the rights of those living in and along the staging areas and parade route. NO solicitation is allowed during the event. 16. Applications must be received at the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce office on or before Monday,December 2, 2019. 17. .No Santa or Mrs. Claus please. We have invited the “real” Santa! Light Parade Driver/Leader Rules • Watch your speed. Be sure the unit behind you is keeping up with you at all times. • If you have a walking unit behind you, it is very important that your float speed be slow enough for the walkers to keep up with you. WE DO NOT WANT ANYONE RUNNING TO STAY UP WITH THE UNIT IN FRONT OF THEM
